NotCentralised Selected as Lead Industry Participant in Project Acacia: Pioneering the Future of Tokenised Asset Settlement in Australia
NotCentralised is proud to announce its selection as a lead industry participant in Project Acacia, a landmark research initiative led by the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) and the Digital Finance Cooperative Research Centre (DFCRC). Project Acacia brings together leading financial institutions, fintech innovators, and key regulatory bodies—including the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA), and the Australian Treasury—to explore the future of digital money and tokenised asset settlement in Australia’s wholesale markets.
Project Acacia is one of the cornerstone initiatives highlighted in the Australian Government’s March 2025 Statement on Developing an Innovative Australian Digital Asset Industry. The project aims to examine how innovations in digital money and existing settlement infrastructure can support the development of Australian wholesale tokenised asset markets, ultimately ensuring that Australia’s financial system remains fit-for-purpose in the digital age.
NotCentralised’s Role in Project Acacia
As a lead use case participant, NotCentralised will work alongside industry leaders such as the Australian Bond Exchange, Australia and New Zealand Banking Corporation, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Westpac, and others to test real-world settlement models using tokenised assets and digital money. Over the next six months, these collaborative efforts will help to identify practical applications, opportunities, and risks associated with the adoption of tokenisation and distributed ledger technologies in wholesale financial markets.
Regulatory Support: Enabling Responsible Innovation
In a move that underscores the significance of this research, ASIC has provided regulatory relief to Project Acacia participants. This relief will enable responsible testing of tokenised asset transactions—including those involving central bank digital currencies (CBDCs)—between participants and select financial institutions. The learnings from this pilot will provide valuable insights for both industry and regulators, supporting the ongoing digital transformation of Australia’s financial sector.
A Collaborative Step Forward
“Being selected for Project Acacia is a testament to NotCentralised’s commitment to advancing Australia’s digital asset ecosystem,” said Arturo Rodriguez, NotCentralised CEO. “We look forward to working closely with our partners and regulators to help shape the future of tokenised markets, driving greater efficiency, transparency, and innovation in Australia’s financial system.”
Next Steps
Testing of use cases under Project Acacia will occur over the next six months, with a comprehensive report on the project’s findings expected in the first quarter of 2026. These findings will inform the RBA’s ongoing research into financial system innovation and support the development of regulatory frameworks for the digital asset industry.
